BookAid Indonesia - Helping English Language students in Indonesia

BookAid Indonesia Location

BookAid Indonesia is forming strong relationships with schools, teachers and students across the Indonesian island of Flores and surrounding islands.

Students studying English as a second language are poorly resourced in this remote area. BookAid Indonesia is helping to assist with the provision of library books and educational texts. BookAid Indonesia is also connecting Australian Bahasa Schools with Floresian Schools to foster 'two-way' language and cultural development.

BookAid Indonesia - small beginings but expanding steadily

BookAid Indonesia was established in late 2014 and is gradually establishing a network of new schools and donor sources of suitable English texts for distribution.

Presently we are focussing on the more remote regions of Flores, and in particular the north coast towns of Mbay & Riung in the Nagekeo Regency.

The islands of Flores and Timor are located at the eastern end of the Indonesian Archipeligo. The capital city of the region known as East Nusa Tenggara is Kupang and lies at the south western tip of West Timor. This hot and bustling commercial city is also the centre of university education in the region.

Whilst Kupang is well connected by sea and air, the more remote north coast of Flores is not. The Trans Flores Highway traverses the island, snaking its way over 745 kilometres from east to west, but bypasses the north coast settlements. Construction and maintenance of the Trans Flores Highway is funded largely by the Australian Government through the Aus Aid program.
